tint. for YouTube
Last updated: 13 September 2026
tint. is a Chrome extension that changes the colors of desktop YouTube. It has no server, no analytics, and no account. Nothing you do on YouTube is sent to its developer.
What the extension stores
tint. saves your settings with Chrome's extension storage
(chrome.storage.sync):
- the palette you selected, and the last palette that was active before you turned tint. off;
- the palettes you starred as favorites;
- any custom colors you set for a palette.
When Chrome sync is enabled on your browser, Google may synchronize these settings across your signed-in devices. That synchronization is provided by Google under your Chrome settings, not by tint.'s developer.
What the extension does on YouTube pages
On youtube.com and www.youtube.com, tint. reads the page's styles and modifies the page's DOM and CSS so your palette applies and stays applied when YouTube renames its internal color variables. This happens entirely in your browser.
tint. does not collect, store, or transmit your watch history, searches, comments, account details, or page content. It does not sell or share user data, and it does not use any data for advertising or for training models. It makes no network requests to the developer or to any third party; the only resources it loads are the theme files packaged inside the extension.
No tracking, in plain terms
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting.
- No cookies set by the extension.
- No remote code: every script and stylesheet ships inside the package.
- No servers operated by the developer.
Permissions and why they exist
- storage — save the settings listed above.
- scripting — register the bundled palette stylesheets and update your open YouTube tabs when you switch palette.
- Access to youtube.com — apply colors on YouTube pages. The extension requests no other host.
Removing your data
Use Reset palette in the picker to clear custom colors for a palette. Uninstalling the extension removes its extension storage from Chrome. Data already synchronized by Chrome is controlled through your Google account's Chrome settings.
Children
tint. is a cosmetic extension for general audiences. It collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
